JOANNE CASH: My brother, Johnny Cash, passed away in September of 2003. One of the many, many times I was with him in his home he said, “Sit down, baby, I want to tell you something.” He said, “If you were walking the shores of Galilee and you looked up and you saw Jesus walking towards you and he was going to say one thing to you, what do you think he’d say?” I said, “I’d want him to say that I’m doing what he called me to do.” He said, “He would say to you, ‘Feed my sheep’.”
And I turned it around and I said, “Well, what would he say to you if you saw him walking toward you?” And I’ll never forget this as long as I live. He said, “Oh, that’s easy. He would say to me, Matthew 11:28, ‘Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light’, that’s what he’d say to me.” And I’ve never forgotten that scripture, because we can come to Him with anything. He said “Come to me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden,” and He’ll give the rest we need.
