From Addiction to Redemption

So then, anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock.

[ Matthew 7:24 (GNT)]

Erik says:

I used drugs since I was about 16 years of age, and by the time I was 20 I was a heroin addict. I was a “Christian” since I was a little boy only because I grew up in a Christian home, but it wasn’t until 2004 that I really found God.

I still continued to struggle with my addiction until about 4.5 years ago when I finally overcame it. Since then, I met my wife and her little boy, whom I’ve taken as my own and we started building a life together. I always kept the part in Matthew 7 about the “wise and foolish builders” close to my heart, because as I rebuilt my own life I knew I had to build it on a solid foundation.

I’ve used Jesus’ words and other scripture as guidelines for everyday living, realizing that the more I’ve applied Biblical principles to my life, the better my life has become! Today I’m blessed with a beautiful family, good job, and I have the privilege to minister to people who struggle with addictions as I once did.

Glory to God, I love you Jesus!

My Son’s Broken Body, Healed Through Christ

His power has brought us victory— his mighty power in battle!” I will not die; instead, I will live and proclaim what the LORD has done.

[Psalm 118:16-17 (GNT)]

Terry says:

My son Justin was in a terrible motorcycle accident 9/3/10. When I got the call about the accident, before I left for the trauma center, I put in a prayer request for him -mind you I had no idea what his injuries where at that time – I just said he was in an accident, injured, please pray.

On the way to the trauma center I prayed: “Lord, please tell me what to pray for Justin because I have no idea how or what to pray” and I the verse, “he shall live and not die and he shall prosper and not fail” came to me. So I took it to heart and claimed that hope as my own.

We arrived to find out that Justin had a tear in his aortic arch, broken pelvic bone, collapsed lung, bilateral contusions, broken ribs and a 1% chance of survival. According to the doctor, rarely does one survive a tear in the aortic arch. The heart surgeon told us that Justin had a slim chance of survival. Justin had surgery — the doctor placed a stent in his aorta and Justin survived that and went on to have his pelvic fracture repaired and his healing in leaps and bounds.

He was released from the hospital less than 2 weeks later and will have a full recovery. Justin has now rededicated his life to Christ. After the surgery, the doctor told us that someone up there was watching out for Justin and that he had angels around him protecting him because people do not usually survive from this type of injury to the aorta.

Thank you Lord for saving my son, and thank you all for praying for our son!

Supporting My Mother

Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

[ 1 Corinthians 13:5-7 (GNT) ]

Karen says:

I came from a poor family but was brought up with extreme care and love by my most loving and humble parents. My mum was abused when she was younger, but she always managed to very good care of us and protect us. My mum became mentally ill when I was 16. She was constantly depressed with a lot of things happening around us.

I prayed to God every single minute when I walk, sit, eat and even while sleeping. It took 3 years for my dad and I to help her recover for her mental illness. All we did was to give her all our unconditional love, and constantly pray for her. I learnt that nothing is impossible with true love and that love must come from God.

You Might Be Called Upon

“And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

[Exodus 3:11 KJV]

Bernard writes:

Except you read the bible you would think that the great men mention in the bible were born that way. But in reality every person in the bible that became great, or did great things for God were just common people. Moses was a great man of God. The bible says , “ And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, none equal to him in all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt.” That was Moses after God put His hands on him. But when God first called Moses he was shocked that God would choose him for he knew that he was inadequate for the job in and of himself. Moses begged God not to send him because of his inability to speak well. If you would read the entire bible you would see that God uses common, or ordinary people and uses them to do extraordinary things. When you see a picture of Moses holding up a stick and the Sea opens up, that’s God, not Moses. If you want to see Moses you would have to go back to the burning bush were he was trembling and trying to convince God not to send him, that’s Moses.

The Apostle Paul gives us some vital information about God, he said; “God has chosen the foolish things of the world{we would call it foolish to call a man who cannot talk well to go speak to a king} to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty. And base, or common {people not born of Noble blood} things of the world, and things which are despised {people who are rejected by other people} has God chosen.” God always takes nothing and produces something, this reveals Him as God. This is His personality, His signature. Paul the great Apostle learned the art of being himself. He said, “When I came to you, brethren, I came not with excellence of speech or of wisdom {mans wisdom} ,declaring to you the testimony of God, for I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. Just be yourself and God will find you and use you to show Himself mighty.

There was a time when God needed a Judge to Judge Israel and He looked and looked until he found a man that was from a poor family and he was least in that family. His name was Gideon. God took this man and saved a Nation. This does not mean that God cannot use people who are of Royal blood, for He used Daniel greatly. Common people are most likely not to get in God’s way, but will allow him to get the glory for they know for sure that they are not capable in and of themselves to accomplish extraordinary things for our great and mighty God. All twelve of Jesus’ disciples were common people.

I hear a lot of people put down David for his act of murder and adultery. These things are clearly wrong and God punished David for this sin. But the fact is God knew that David was a murderer and an adulterer when He called him to be king. David did not know it for circumstances had not presented themselves. But God knew it, for He knows all things. Yet God call him to be king despite his humanity. If God uses anyone from the tribe of Adam they are going to have some faults, some more than others. It seems to me like with God the more messed up a person is, that’s who He is looking for. How messed up are you? Look out, you may be called to do extraordinary things for God.

The Doctors Did Not Know My God

“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.”

[Daniel 3:17 NIV]

Christopher writes:

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had it right on how to pray to God. They knew God was quite capable of deliverance, yet God’s will is sovereign. Therefore they didn’t anticipate the outcome, but trusted God’s will is good.
In June of 2007, I left for work after a long weekend of sleep. I was too embarrassed to seek medical help thinking I had a severe case of gingivitis. My legs were bruised, yet I did not feel bad. On the way to work, I spun out in a median two times. It just seemed like a clumsy action, and I thought little of it. I arrived at work and my boss looked at me and said, you’re too sick to be here, go home.

I went home unsure if I’d been fired or if my boss really saw something. I called my wife and she rushed home to take me to the doctor. The doctor ran blood tests and confirmed his suspicions. I have Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The doctor made arrangements with the Markey Cancer Center and I was rushed there by ambulance. Apparently I’d lost 2/3rds of my blood, had suffered several strokes which caused a subdural hematoma (bleeding in the brain). Immediate brain surgery was needed, yet my blood was in such poor condition the surgery was a tremendous risk. Doctors placed my survival below 1% and questioned whether surgery was even justified. The doctors told my family to say their final goodbyes, that I most likely would not survive.

In just a few short hours I went from thinking I had gingivitus to what appeared to be the grave. I had maybe 20 minutes alone with my wife, and to be quite honest, I’d already decided I was dead. I asked her to pray with me that ‘God’s will be done’ through this. That God could deliver me if He so choosed, yet if He did not, it changed nothing.
There is so much to tell and so little space to tell it. I underwent the brain surgery, chemotherapy, treatment for blood infections, and any number of things that in themselves could have killed me. It was God’s will that I survived. I am now 1 complete year in remission. The prognosis is good. Life in the furnace was not so bad. I am a better person and my faith is ever so more increased. The doctors counted me dead, they did not know my God.

God Gave Me A Vision

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

[Revelation 22:1-2 NIV]

Linda writes:

In the palace of the King I found myself once again seeking God in a dream through the book of Revelations 22:2-3.I was in the spirit being carried away to a beautiful palace made of pure polished marble, there Jesus awaited me,summoned once again by the work of the Holy Spirit teaching.I was greeted by Jesus word from the book of Revelation 22:1-2.The Lord said come with me.I followed him through a palace where gold stairs led up to undescovered rooms,he led me to a hudge arch window where a clear river and green pastures awaited discoveries and he said “I quote ,I have something to show you”.I wont you to take your time focus and study the sacrifices given for you.I turned to the right and looked out the window and Jesus showed me a pure river clear as crystal, from the banks of the river grew a hudge tree roots being fed from the river of water of life clear as crystal. The roots were covered with thorns,as my eyes followed the roots upward toward the trunk of the tree I saw hudge thorns cover the entire tree upward. As my eyes reached the limbs outward streaching out over the heavens and river I seen the leaves green which was for the healing of the nations.Jesus said Focus on the leaves,so I did.Lord! What I saw.As I focused I saw where the saints had died for the gospel of Christ, some crucified upside down, some lives cut short not living long after their excepting the Lord, one cross right after another in perfect union with oneanother, this was the veins of the leaves I speak of I saw. Those who gave their lives and now live within the living water of life.I saw all believers who live in the living water of life. The veins were covered with tiny cross`touching oneanother.I stood there at the window studing the tree, the river of life, the leaves, the veins of the leaves.I was so amazed at what God was showing me as my thoughts turned to the book of Revelations chapter 22:verse 1-2.And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, and on either side of the river was there a tree of life.I know now after I awoke what the dream ment and why God showed me the tree of life and its leaves. There was many extraordinary lives given and taken away long ago for the word of God to be here today to lead us to everlasting life through Jesus Christ the Son of God.Many lives were sacrificed for us just as our Lord so we could hear how he loved us through the Word. This dream and verse has made such an impact on my life once again by simply obeying God and focus and study, looking a little deeper on the sacrifices made for us by others .Thankyou for letting me share my story.

Hope for the Hopeless

“While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, ‘My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.’”

[Matthew 9:18-26 NIV]

Rev. Bhatia writes:

Faith in the face of death- It was a great moment when the Roman army officer asked Jesus to his servant.it was even more remarkable that a Jewish religious leader should come to Him and believe that Jesus could raise his daughter to life again;and should actually kneel down to ask His help.
The professional mourners could only laugh at the idea of raising thr dead, but their mocking laughter was quickly silenced because her father believed and was humble enough to sink his pride and ask for Christ’s help.

Faith in the face incureable of illness-

The woman who interrupted Jesus on His way to the ruler’s house had no one to plead for her;her illness made her something of an outcast.Moreover,.twelve long years of suffering must have left her with no hope at all of getting better. But she had watched Jesus at work and listened
to His words and was ready to put her trust in Him.She did not dare ask Him openely-but a touch was enough. She was cured because she believed in the impossible.

THINK-What do these two stories suggest about faith?

PRAY-for stronger,simpler faith.
