Showing My Friends My Faith

“The LORD will lead you into the land. He will always be with you and help you, so don’t ever be afraid of your enemies. “

[Deuteronomy 31:8 CEV]

Mauri writes:

Some of my friends and I have started sending bible verses to each other everyday for encouragement, and this is one I sent one day. This has helped me so much lately.

I have a best friend that is going through depression (at 13 I might add). She also has lost all faith and belief in God. She says she’s mentally incapable of believing that God could fix all of this, and that it’s hard to trust in someone who she’s not sure even exists.

It scares me to death to wake up every morning and there being a possibility of her being gone. But it’s even scarier to think of where she’d going if that happens. I told my youth leader about her depression and the harm she does to herself, and he told her parents. She actually has a doctor’s appointment next week.

But anyway, his whole situation has definitely helped me in my walk with God. I’ve had to work extra hard to live my life as a Christian, because this situation brought me to the realization that the way you act does affect other people.

The other night, I almost gave up. I’ve been living the Christian life around her, I’ve brought God up around her almost everyday, I’ve shown love and care, everything I’m told to do..but it seemed like nothing was working. I felt like every effort I was putting forth to help her was pointless.

I started thinking more on this verse though, and it hit me. God’s leading everything for me, I just have to go along. He knows what will come out of the situation. Satan tried to discourage me, but I finally realized that I shouldn’t be discouraged if I’m doing something for the glory of God.

I Feel the Lord's Call

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and freedom to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all who mourn,”

[Isaiah 61:1-2 CSB]

Chris writes:

These verses have come back to me at 3 separate times in my life and I’m beginning to believe that God is speaking to me in a profound way. I’m to be more like Jesus and share the Good News so that He can set the captives free.

One of my favorite old hymns says it this way; “Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Jesus will save, He will save.” I feel as though God is beginning to commission me to go although I’m not entirely sure where or when or to what?!?

This is exciting, but scary as well. I’m 37 years old and I just wish I would have listened previously when I felt His calling but I’m currently unemployed and more attentive to God than ever due to having a wife and a child!

Please pray for me…

I Found Peace In The Lord

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

[John 14:27 NKJV]

Fran writes:

I was twenty-seven before I heard the way of salvation was other than being good. I was living the normal merry-go-round life of a wife and mother of two. Except it wasn’t so merry sometimes.

I put myself under such pressure, even a simple phone ringing sent me for the bottle of tranquilizers. Then the unexpected death of my parents shook my already unsteady world. Besides my deep grief, I now had big questions. What happens when you die? What is life all about? I tried going back to my childhood church whose hypocrisy had years ago turned me off of religion. They had no answers for me. Seeking peace and answers, I increased the speed of my merry-go-round. God being so merciful, pursued me until I found Him. He sent Donna into my life. Through her love and prayers, she led me to the doorway of salvation.

She gave me a Bible and patiently answered my myriad of questions. I learned I couldn’t work my sin away, I couldn’t do enough good works to get to heaven. It was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who had already earned my way for me (Rom 5:8).

When I read in the book of John (14:27) that Jesus said He gives me peace and it wasn’t the peace as the world gives and that I was not to let my heart be troubleld or afraid. I knew this bible was for me.

Donna told me if I’d even if I’d been the only one, He loved me enough to die just for me!
No words can describe what happened in my life once I chose to go through the open door of salvation. God gave me true peace and joy, and a love for Him and His Word.

No matter what life has brought, no matter which doors I have chosen, I have weathered it—for He is the Source of my peace and joy. While I didn’t become instantly perfect , He began a gentle work which is still going on.
Each day is indeed an adventure with Him—and it keeps getting better.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 NIV).

Prayer: “Thank you Father, for your Son Jesus Christ who died, was buried, and rose again for my sins. I come by faith and ask You to forgive me. I surrender myself to you, and thank You for coming into my life. I believe Your promises are true, and I am now Your child by faith. Amen.”

I See Female Role Models In the Bible

“In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, ‘Please come at once!’ Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.”

[Acts 9:36-43 NIV]

Eleanor writes:

Tabitha called (Dorcas), was a female Disciple of Peter’s. One that worked herself to death doing good for the people of God everywhere. I call her a Soldier on the battlefield in the Army of the Lord.

A Disciple that always found her hand at the plow making garments and coverings for the needy. The time of her death, brought grief to many, being unexpected leaving the people without a willing working Minister. Dorcas ministry lead many to Salvation, it taught them to preach without expecting pay. She took no thought for tomorrow how she would survive, but depending upon the Lord for total compassion.

The question comes to mind how was this woman a Disciple of the Gospel? However she was ordained by Apostle Peter. Yes, Disciple Dorcas was a woman of God in ministry, her duty in the ministry answers the question “Can Women be a Pastor”, our men would be the ones to poss such question to the world. Since God made male and female giving them dominion over everything, there’s nothing to hinder women from teaching, preaching or delivering the Word of God. Women continue do what you do best continue to carry the Word of God in your hearts, our men truly need it.

Throughout the Word of God there would be no Bible if there was no women. God said, “It is not good for man to be alone”. We have much love and respect for our men and the role they play. May God bless our men and women that are in leadership.

Superchick: The Bible in Our Music [3:36]

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

[Psalm 139:15-16(NIV)]

Matt Dally and Tricia Brock from Christian band Superchick talk about their album, “Rock What You Got,” and how the Bible’s message inspires so much of the hope in their music.
