Jesus Relieving My Anxiety

[Jesus speaking] … “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”

[Mark 4:26-29 NIV]

Greg R. writes:

As I began my daily devotions one Wednesday morning, I was not looking forward to being the leader of our high school ministry that night. Although our teens are basically “great kids,” I have gone home on more than one night wondering if I did any good at all.

The anxiety was creeping over me and that was not good. When I am anxious, I get short with the teens, am bugged by the little things and am less fun to be around.

The story of the seed that grows with no help from the farmer was a gift. My job was to sow seeds. “Sow seeds of the gospel? I can do that. With joy? I can do that.” Indeed I did.

With my role as farmer firmly in mind, I joyfully led our youth in worship, dinner time and Bible study. I was free to laugh and love with the teens. All I had to do was scatter the seeds of the Gospel of God’s love. What a great job.

I've Surrendered More Fully

For freedom did Christ set us free: stand fast therefore, and be not entangled again in a yoke of bondage.

[Galatians 5:1 ASV]

Isaiah R. writes:

My thoughts are that when I got saved I found that I really didn’t surrender fully. I was still holding on to the secular because it was what I knew.

Later, I was in a car accident that nearly killed me, but I still didn’t surrender.

Then God sent people in my life to guide me and tell me who I was. I am a child of the most high, who gave his life in exchange for mine.

This verse told me I’m free, and that meant a lot, so I live life to the best of my ability and let God do the rest.

Scripture ResourceStand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made you free, and don’t be entangled again by the yoke of bondage. God’s Word for thirsty seekers. Amen.

Ronnie Freeman: St Francis of Assisi (1:31)

[Psalm 40:1-2 NIV]

Musician Ronnie Freeman shares how he’s been following Saint Francis of Assisi’s example of studying one verse of scripture thoroughly.

Joanne Cash: First Bible (2:40)

[John 3:16 NIV]

Shawn McDonald: Drugs to Bible

When an evil spirit leaves a person, it travels through the desert, looking for a place to rest. But when the demon doesn’t find a place, it says, “I will go back to the home I left.” When it gets there and finds the place empty, clean, and fixed up, it goes off and finds seven other evil spirits even worse than itself. They all come and make their home there, and the person ends up in worse shape than before. That’s how it will be with you evil people of today.

[Matthew 12:43-45 CEV]

Christian musician, Shawn McDonald, shares his incredible testimony from a life of drug addiction and dealing, to his sudden conversion to Christ.

Jesus conquered my addictions

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

[1 Timothy 4:14-16]

Tammy writes:

In 1996, I was hit by a tractor-trailer which resulted in 7 surgeries to include a cervical fusion - my neck was cracked in two places. Two months following the last surgery from the accident, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was removed, but live cells were left on the brain stem. Five months following the brain surgery, I accidentally became pregnant with my 3rd baby. I was told to abort her. I didn’t, but chose to glorify the Lord instead - they gave me five years to live. Following her birth, I was put on medication that I became addicted to, resulting in my 15 years of marriage ending, bankruptcy, suicide attempts, and rehab. By the Grace of God, I conquered my addiction, but stupidly picked up alcohol, drinking on a daily basis and unable to hold a job. I began to hemorrhage internally by vomiting and passing blood. I couldn’t eat and could barely walk. I would shake tremendously and HAD to put down a big swig of vodka before even getting out of bed.

The following year, I met a woman who prayed for me. She told me that suicide was not the answer, because she had LIVED it. Something changed in my heart, telling me to hold on, but it wasn’t until my own mother laid hands on me (after another attempt at suicide), that I was healed. I woke up the next day and was completely healed - I had no desires for alcohol and drank water for the first time in a very long time, and actually ate a piece of toast - this being the only food I had eaten in about two weeks. I realized that I had been touched by God, and picked up the Bible for the first time in quite a while. I prayed, “Lord, if you want me to live, show me in this book what I am to do.” I was led to 1 Timothy 4:14-16.

Through this passage, I now know that my purpose is to seek out others who are suffering from addictions and let them know that Christ is the ONLY answer. It’s amazing the people he’s already placed in my life.

Need to talk to someone?

What a friend is Jesus!

William’s thoughts on:

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV)
Psalm 1: 1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (KJV)

Many years ago I dreamed of becoming a pastor. That dream died. So I dreamed someday I would get a Bible education. I went to Bible college and dropped out when money was nearly gone. I dreamed I would someday meet an older person with a vast Bible education to be a friend and mentor. That dream remains a dream and it refuses to die. I never dreamed of having friends but now it seems I have none even though I have so many… but someone to share scripture and encourage in the Lord… who can find? I dreamed of being married and have lived a half century single. stupid dream… to live for Jesus is the dream I missed. I live with a heart crushed and cursed in a land of plenty and in the age of grace…but yet though my heart and life is like a barren desert… one fact cannot change… “God is Love.” I scream against that verse, I hate it, but it is my only hope… Why would one hate goodness… because I hate my life and the pain of loneliness is such a real invisible unprovable thing. But even if, in the end, I do not have to have a friend… I have to love Jesus. Better to be alone and in love with Jesus than have a billion friends and not be in reverent and submissive love with Jesus.

Unmovable Things

The pain of being alone
Is a billion pound stone
The truth of Jesus Love
Is the BIGGEST mountain in heaven above.
