I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
[Psalm 89:1 NIV]

JACQUE DESHETLER: As a song writer, when I first came to the Lord, was doing the big, you know, rock band thing and—the Lord began to speak to me about, um, ministry a call in my life, which honestly hadn’t had a clue—didn’t have a clue what that meant, what’s a call, what’s ministry, duh.
And—because that’s the world I was from. What are you guys talking about? You mean you want me to be in—you know a nun? I just—you know like in “Sound of Music” or something. And, um, actually I was—I was playing out one night and I got in my vehicle afterwards and I just—I felt like I just needed to surrender something and I didn’t quite understand it.
So at that point, um, I basically made a decision that I was called into ministry and began to devour the word of God. I had this little attic that was full of carpet, you know carpet squares and that was like my sanctuary and I’d bring my guitar up there and I’d feed on the word for probably two hours, you know, at a time until my spirit just felt like it had woken up to—it was like a sunrise inside my spirit.
And then I would take my guitar and I would just sing straight out of the word. And that’s where I learned about the anointing of God and the anointing that is on his word.
So everything that I wrote for years was purely scripture based, um, and most of the time King James. So anyway it was—it was—yeah.
So I mean everything I write now is based on the word. Of course, you know, it’s different. I don’t sing it exactly the way it, you know, is written anymore but it’s all the same, you know just it comes outside of a different place.
