“I Am Learning To Listen To God”
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
Avery writes:
This year, especially, God has truly taught me to listen to Him. I am still in high school, and so many times, i find myself so confused about what God wants me to do with my life. I never knew that God really does actually talk to me. But, He does. I learned to get to know what His voice sounds like and who He is, then i could hear what He is trying to say to me. I could never differentiate my imagination from His voice, until i read this verse and Isaiah 55:3, which says, “Come to Me with ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life.” Once i knew what His voice sounds like, i could get to listen to Him. God wants to speak to His children. He wants no secrets from us. He is the God Almighty, who knows everything about me and everything ahead of me. The world makes it so easy for us to fill our minds with all so much junk that we don’t have any more room for God’s voice. Listening to God is our decision. No one can force us into doing so. Ever since then, i have completely relied only on Him and can now understand what He wants me to do to further His Kingdom.

Dear Avery:
I shared, too, your determination of: “I have completely relied only on Him…,” since I was about to graduate from High School, Maryknoll, Hong Kong, and still can “now understand what He wants me to do to further His Kingdom” over half a century later :-).
You said it profoundly: “He is the God Almighty, who knows everything about me and everything ahead of me.”
Hence, I echo the Psalmist: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10);
“In every change, He faithful will remain…thy best, thy heavenly Friend, Thro’ thorny ways leads to a joyful end” (Christian Hymn: “Be Still My Soul”).
Therefore, “Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah” (Psalm 4:4).
Consequently, “if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently” (Romans 8:25).
Surely, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1).
“And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised” (Hebrews 6:15).
Beside, we are reminded: “Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing” (Psalm 37:8).
Let us, therefore, “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah” (Psalm 62:8). (”Selah” in Hebrew means: May the Lord who is gracious above all, give us wisdom and understanding, and guide us all into the truth of His Holy Word. Amen.)
Thank you.
May GOD ALL MIGHTY Bless you inestimably and infinitely;
GODSPEED with your academia and career to come, always and forevermore!
Mary Sun.
