God Lifted Me Out of A Dark Place

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

[Psalm 40:2]

Joey writes:

In November of ‘96 (I was in my 30’s, married w/two children) my grandmother died. I never lived in the same town with her so our visits were always very special. I had a bond with her like I have never had with anyone else.

After wanting a horse my whole life, I was finally the proud owner of a little mare. The night before Thanksgiving, I came home after dark. We had a wire gate and while dragging it shut the top wire slipped off the post. Since I ran early in the morning I decided to fix it when it was daylight. My husband woke me the next morning with the news that my horse had been run over and the vet had been called to put her down.

I called my parents and told them I wouldn’t be coming to town for Thanksgiving dinner. My husband took the kids and went to his family’s dinner.

I sat in my chair all weekend.

When Monday morning came, I laced up my running shoes and switched my radio to the local Christian station. Through scripture and song, over the next few weeks, the Lord literally lifted me out of the pit.

    Dear Joey:

    You are so blessed to have a wonderful husband and families who understood your need to be alone.

    His understanding love has no doubt enabled you to be taken hold of and lifted out of the pit of dearkness by His Mighty and Faithful Word (Matthews 12:11).

    You were wise to choose solitude at the right time, to be ‘rescued from the mire and not sink.’(Psalm 69:14).

    Jesus Prays in Solitary Places. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed”.(Mark 1:35).
    He Prays on the Mount of Olives.(Luke 22:39).

    I, too, pray for making level paths for my feet and take only ways that are firm.(Proverbs 4:26).

    Thank you.

    May GOD ALL MIGHTY Bless you and yours inestimably and infinitely;
    GODSPEED, always and forevermore!

    Mary Sun.
