Dear Matt Dally and Tricia Brock of Christian band Superchic(k):
Your calm and submissive conclusion of “Be content if God takes it away” reflects superbly the peaceful acquiescence in His Will in trials and piety of Abraham, Job and other holy men.
In the person of Abraham, he hears the call of God and comes to the decisive act of trusting in the revealed God of Mercy and Truth; on the ground of which act he is accounted as righteous.
In Job 1:21, Job said,“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
Transcending blessings repeated on these and other momentous occasions.
We see the nature of obedience and true resignation of God’s Word. It is not because we can always rationalize the reasons why we are afflicted. Rather, it consists in our full hearted dedication to the Will of our Almighty God, and accept that He has a right to remove what He has given us. It is His; and may be taken away from us with His Own Good Reasons beyond our comprehension.
“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (Timothy 6:7).
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
