Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
[John 8:32 NIV]
Christian musician Shawn McDonald’s upcoming record is pretty much straight from Scripture. He shares about his struggle to dig into the Word when he’s traveling; and he knows that the more he studies the Word, the more direction he has in life.

MR. SHAWN MCDONALD: The new record, the one we’re working on right now is, I would say half of it is straight, like just word for word pretty much. Like I just kind of that’s where I’m at. I mean I have a song that was written from the Be [phonetic] Attitudes on this song, one from Ecclesiastes and a couple from the Psalms. And, but, yeah I don’t have any method as far as like how I write a song. It’s just you know when I’m inspired I write. And it’s hard when you’re on the road a lot, you know. But I would always write down scriptures that really spoke to my heart. I would write them down and I’d post them around my computer or on my wall next to my bed just to remind myself. And we still have a little bit of that around the house, but it’s hard, you know, we’re on the road.
And I think the biggest struggle for me is just digging into the Word on the road and just reading it. And I noticed, I mean the Bible says that knowing the truth will set us free. That I really see that in my life that the more that I study and I seek God and His Word the more, like, direction I have in life and itself and how I approach life and how I get through on my day to day basis. And just even my overall, like, just the way I feel about myself and how I treat others I guess too.
