“God Comes to Me in Dreams”
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Michael writes:
I’m forty-six years old. When I was seventeen, God came to me in a dream and has been in my life since. And through his word he has blessed my life immensely.
God comes to me in dreams; he even wakes me up with scriptures rolling off my tongue, and I have to get up and write them down and reference the Bible to see what he’s trying to tell me. I’ll give you a great example.
Here’s the story about “My Cup Runneth Over,” a song I recently wrote. I woke up one morning singing a line to a song, “My cup is filled up it runneth over, my cup is filled up it runneth over, just one step at a time as these golden stairs I climb, my cup runneth over all the time.”
As I laid there I thought, “I’ve never heard that song before.” So I got out of bed and jotted the few lines down.
My cup runneth over … I knew I had read that before in the Bible, but I wasn’t sure where that verse was in the Bible. I found it in the book of Psalms and began to write a song. Here are the lyrics.
“My Cup Runneth Over” by Michael Ray Baker
The lord is my shepherd, he leads me beside still waters
In the paths of righteousness he restores my soul.
Walking through the valley I will fear no evil
His rod and staff they comfort me, my cup it overflows.
My cup is filled up it runneth over,
My cup is filled up it runneth over,
Just one step at a time as these golden stairs I climb
My cup runneth over all the time.
There’s a table set before me with goodness and mercy
Forever I will dwell in the house of the lord.
He promised he would feed me the bread of life to keep me
And with the Living Water my cup he’ll overflow.
I’ve written nearly thirty songs, and my sister recorded ten of them. The producer submitted a copy of the CD to the Gospel Music Association (GMA) offices, and the judges were so impressed with my songs that they’re considering nominating the entire CD for the 2008 Dove Awards in the category of “Traditional Gospel Album of the Year.” The song “My Cup Runneth Over” is on that CD.

Michael, I am 46 also. God speaks to me through dreams and also wakes me up with scriptures also. It is such a blessing that “our God” is so great and greatly to be praised.
Michael, your song is truly a blessing. Keep marching on for Jesus, because what we do for Jesus is all that counts and matters.
God bless you!

Dear. Michael Ray Baker:
First and foremost, you can be sure that I will be your loyal customer of “Traditional Gospel Album of the Year” CD, simply because your song “My Cup Runneth Over” is in it :-).
“…Just one step at a time as these golden stairs I climb
My cup runneth over all the time….” How poetic and beautiful!
I was ready to run to the piano and add music to it.
Personally, my cup of blessings is not merely full, runs over with abundance, I have the blessed assurance that God has been, is and always be “my Shepherd, I shall not want.”
“What shall I render to the Lord, For all His benefits toward me? I shall lift up the cup of salvation….” (Psalm 116:13).
Inevitably, “My cup of blessing which we bless in sharing in the blood of Christ….” (I Corinthians 10:16)–salvation– comes to my mind.
When I live my life prayerfully by “The Lord is my Shepherd,” Jesus “the Good shepherd” (John 10:14), the sense of security and peace, truly, empowers me to fear no evil, but to enjoy life to the fullest with sharing my ‘running over’ cup of blessings with others as His humble servant within my limited capabilities.
Thank you, and
May GOD ALL MIGHTY Bless you and your loving and supportive family;
GODSPEED, always and forevermore!
Mary Sun.
