  1. Andy says:

Currently my “favorite” passage about love is Romans 8:31-39. It’s an incredibly powerful passage!

I’ll just give you the last two verses, Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Brother Raphael, a monk who’s now dead, once said, “Trust the invincibility of your heart.” I think Paul is essentially saying the same thing in the above passage: Trust the invincibility of God’s love for you … thus trust the invincibility of your heart.

And if I’m honest, I do have a deep sense, despite all the fear and anxiety I live with, that all is well and all will be well … this deep knowing of the invincibility of God’s love and my heart. Can I trust it? I think both Paul and Brother Raphael are clearly saying “yes.” I pray that I’ll trust it more and more.

Andy, you completely took the words from my mouth! You know that is my absolute life verse since 2003. To think that nothing can seperate us from God’s love is amazing to me… that all of my imperfections and mistakes only draws me closer to Him. He wants to be in my mess!

At the moment I have been reading Hosea and the different ways God was dealing with Israel… and towards chapter 11 the Lord God just pours out His love to his beloved people… It just completely flored me that through all of that, God still called them His beloved.

  3. Mary Sun says:

    Dear Andy Padjen, community host:

Your ‘humor’ of the pun of “love life” gave us a good laugh.

    To answer your questions:

    1. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15.13.

This exemplifies the unfathomable Love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who died on the Cross even for the foes who rejected Him, persecuted Him–the most bitter suffering.

    2. “But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing….” Luke 23:34

This verse is not merely fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 53, but so often I do not know what I do or have done to cause hurts and sufferings to others.

Yet, when I pray, “‘…and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors….’ I know that God would bring me to my senses. He would pardon me and endow me with better judgment, and attain peace.

    3. “Love is patient, love is kind….” I Corinthians 13:4.

My fourth grade teacher Ms. Tai has taught me a lot about love. She had patiently motivated me to be a good student. I in turn have encouraged our children to study hard, competing among ourselves that “knowledge is power.”

Through my Godmother, I have learned that if I truly desire the other’s good and happiness, often it requires patience, forbearance and benignity. In return, I find meaning, meaningfulness and fulfillment of life.

    Thank you, and
May GOD ALL MIGHTY Bless you, and
    GODSPEED with your network,

  4. Michael Ray Baker says:

    Dear Andy,
My favorite verse about love can be found in Matt. 6:25-29 Jesus tells us not to worry about material things, like food and raiment. He takes care of the creatures of this earth, and surely we he will take care of us.

I use this scriture because we’re living in a world of uncertainties and sometimes I struggle just to make ends meet and I have to learn to lean on Jesus and not let the cares of this life weaken me and my faith in him.

My mother has been the greatest inspiration in my life. She started serving the lord at the age of twelve and she’s seventy-eight now. She has been a great example of patience, loving kindness, merciful and so many more examples she has set for me all through my life, and her name is Mary, how appropirate!

The verse that I would use to descibe my mother’s love would have to be the same as Mary Sun used in her comment, John 15:13 “greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for friends”. My mother tells me that she loves me so much that she would lay down her life for me. That’s the kind of love we all should have toward one another.
    God Bless You Andy,
    Michael Baker

  5. Barbara says:

I John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins; this currently is my favorite verse about God’s love for us, which is measureless. We cannot fathom it or begin to understand it!

John 15:13 also describes my husband’s love for his country - He was KIA - a wonderful Christian, husband, father, and son.

  6. MC says:

Can one be tough to stand the trials of life and be tender at the same time? How? Please help me achive this balance. thank you.

  7. Saffron says:

Song of Songs 4:1-5:1 is one of my favorite passages celebrating love; love that is physical, embodied, passionate, chemical, exciting, dizzying, crazy, vulnerable….

  8. Andy says:

MC, great question! I wrestle with this, too. From my own experience and understanding, my answer is “yes,” we can be both tender and strong. My former mentor, Sheryl, says it like this: As we develop emotionally and spiritually, we develop the “tender strength” of Jesus.

In other words, from my perspective, God is both infinitely tender and infinitely strong. So as we mature (as we become more like God), we become more and more tender and stronger and stronger.

That said, I think the journey of developing the tender strength of God/Jesus is a long and difficult one. It’s also a beautiful and fulfilling one.

    Any thoughts on that, MC?

SAFFRON, wow, nice. Amen. That’s all I have to say about that.

  9. Jeni says:

You sound like a very strong woman. I am so sorry for your loss. You will be in our prayers, My nephew was KIA in Iraq last April. Please keep our family in your prayers. God bless you!

  10. Jeni says:

    That message was for Barbra.
