“What's Your Bible Verse for 2008?”
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Do you sense that God is inviting you to engage the Bible in 2008? If so, I’d love to hear (and I’m sure others would love to hear) your answers to any of the following questions:
- How do you plan on engaging the Bible in 2008? (For example, do you plan to meditate on Scripture, pray Scripture, study Scripture, read it from cover to cover, etc.?)
- What’s your Bible verse for 2008? (For example, do you have a particular verse you plan to cling to or implement in your daily walk in 2008?)
- What do you hope to get out of your engagement of the Bible in 2008?

In 2007, I began to understand on a deeper level how important “safety” is to me, i.e., feeling safe. I long to feel safer with God, first and foremost, and also with others … and myself. That continues to be a major growth area for me.
God continues to use some Bible passages to help heal those parts of me that are so scared, that struggle to feel and trust that I’m safe. Here are three passages that help me soak in safety, in the reality that I’m infinitely safe with God: Isaiah 30:15, Matthew 11:28-30 and Psalm 91:4.
Psalm 91:4: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
In 2008, may I grow in safety … and thus in intimacy with God, others and myself.

It’s a new year and I can hardly believe it. The verse that has been stiring in my heart and mind has been Psalm 94:14 which says “For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance.” I love how this translation puts it… he will never forsake his inheritance. We are his inheritance! Often times I don’t feel like much and often doubt myself. This year I want to not only study His Word more, but do more work for Him. Working in a Christian organization often times you feel like you have met you “religious” quota, but that is the furthest thing from the truth. One of my goals this year is to become more involved in my local church and do more with the children’s ministry. It’s gonna be a great year!

Your wits and humor spice up your writings and make your questions even more intriguing.
1. I plan to continue meditating on, pray, study and read the Bible from cover to cover.
2. My Bible verse for 2008 remains to be “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” This theme permeates throughout both the Old and New Testaments in practically every circumstance of my life. “Faith, hope and love” in I Corinthians 13 perhaps summarizes best my meaning thereof here.
3. I hope to remain to be His humble servant guided by the Bible in 2008.
I hear His All Loving and Powerful Word in the Holy Bible.

Philipians 4:8-9 (NIV) will be one of my theme verses this year.
I recently read something my wife picked up by C.J. Mahaney titled, The Cross Centered Life: Keeping the Gospel the Main Thing. It goes something like this…
On a daily basis we’re faced with two simple choices. We can either listen to ourselves and our constantly changing feelings about our circumstances or we can talk to ourselves about the unchanging truth of who God is and what He’s accomplished at the cross through Jesus Christ.
This year I plan to talk to myself and meditate on the truth as found in God’s Word and not listen to the internal voice that is so distracted by circumstances.
Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

I accepted Christ at the age of 13 and have always found Him faithful.Several years ago I experenced a stressful and life changing experience.In going through that time,God lead me to Matthew 6:33″But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” As a 71 year old great grandfather,Christ continues to lead me day by day.
Praise His wonderful name.
