“I'm Inspired to Live 'This Day'”
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
Alex J. writes:
What impacted me in this verse was the phrase “this day.” God tells us here to choose “this day.”
The Bible tells us that yesterday is gone and that tomorrow isn’t promised to us. All that leaves us with is “this day.”
I have to get past the mistakes of yesterday and make the right descision “this day.” I can’t afford to look ahead to tomorrow, I can only make the right descision “this day.”
“This day” I choose to live right for the Lord, “this day” I choose to worship my Lord, “this day” I choose to serve my Lord, “this day” I choose to repent … “THIS DAY.”
With all the plans, thoughts, concerns, burdens and worries that I have in life, the Lord tells me to be only concerned about what I do, say, think, and act on “THIS DAY.”
Recently, I had a scare with the health of my wife, and while I was worried about losing her, the Lord told me to stop looking at what “could be” and deal with “This Day.” Because “This Day” is the only thing that I can deal with. When I did this, a peace came over me. So I’ve adopted it as my personal motto: “this day” I choose to serve, worship, repent, and honor my Lord.
In spite of and despite of yesterday and what took place, “This Day” I will live for the Lord and will lay down my will for His will.

Alex, I love your passion! And I love your motto.
Jesus also talked about the importance of living in the present moment (Matt. 6:34), or “this day,” as you would say.
Over the past several months, I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to live in the here and now, the present moment, “this day.” It’s hard, but at times I’ve experienced new levels of joy, peace and love.
Thanks for sharing, Alex!

Dear Alex J.:
“We will serve the Lord,” indeed, this day, and every day, as long as we are blessed with the breath of life.
So often, we in America take it for granted, and forget to count the blessings of “give us THIS DAY our daily bread….”
Sort of like you, since I have seen so many hungry and down trodden particularly in other parts of the world, I also strive to work with the best of my limited ability in the here and now, and share in the Gospel wherever I can reach, transcending time, land and sea.
Thank you very much for your reawakening
and re-energizing for us to serve the Lord.
My humble and fervent prayers for the speedy recovery of your Wife (Better Half?) in this medically advanced world;
GOD Bless you and yours, and
GODSPEED!
Mary Sun.
