“Jaime Jamgocian: How I Came to Christ (2:00)”
Musician Jaime Jamgochian shares an inspirational story of how she became a Christian at 21 years old.
JAMIE JAMGOCHIAN: Well, it surprises people but I didn’t come to know the Lord until I was about 21. I didn’t grow up in a Christian family. I guess you could say our theology was: love people, love God, be a good person and you go to Heaven. But we were missing the key, which is Jesus, our savior. So I strived to be a good person and love people. Once I hit college, things kind of went downhill real fast. It was through a Christian classmate that actually approached me in a songwriting class, I had quoted “God can give you strength”, ‘cause I was really searching, you know, I was just kind of going through a hard time, and she got all excited, she came up to me and said, “You must be a Christian! Do you know Jesus? Are you born again?” And I looked at her kind of funny and I said, “Ah, well sure, I mean I believe in God.” And she just knew, she’s like, “Okay,” and we laughed and she started to share with me her faith and how she had invited Jesus into her heart a few years prior, and the change in her life. And she had given my first Christian tape, which was Hillsong’s “Shout to the Lord,” and I hear that song, “My Jesus, my savior,” and I knew I wanted to know Jesus the way this woman was singing about. So I came to know the Lord at 21 out of really the typical college-girl American kind of lifestyle that was going on, making a lot of poor decisions in my life. My heart was forever changed at that time. My parents thought I was crazy, and didn’t quite get what I was going through, but I am just so grateful to say that my whole family now knows the Lord, and we are all loving Jesus and trying to serve Him the best we know how to.
