God’s Never Failed Me

O Lord, I give my life to you.
I trust in you, my God!
Do not let me be disgraced,
or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

[Psalm 25:1-3 NLT]

Jeanne writes:

In 1982, when I was 14, my parents got divorced and my family stopped attending church. It was a very painful, lonely time for me. It was a time when I needed God’s help most, yet I didn’t have a church home.

So, I began reading the Bible on my own each night. I found that I really related to Psalms because David had so much pain and suffered through so many trials. I really related with Psalm 25.

I felt like problems were coming at me from every direction and that I hadn’t done anything to deserve them. I’d loved God all my life and been a Christian since age 7. I never doubted God and yet I felt like he’d abandoned me and left me to the wolves for some reason.

In Psalm 25, David is begging God to help him. He’s reminding God of their relationship. He’s telling God to look at all the unfair things that are happening in his life and asking God to show his greatness and come to his aid.

I especially love the verse which says, “Oh, let it never be said that I trusted you in vain.” I prayed that Psalm like a prayer for years. I still pray it when times are tough. I still need God to help me win battles and rescue me from problems that I didn’t cause.

And so far it’s never been said that I’ve trusted God in vain. God has never failed me!

Jeanne, thanks for sharing. Thanks for pointing me to Psalm 25 … I can relate to it, too!

Sometimes when I’m in an intense situation, I’ll meditate on the passage in the Gospels (Matthew 26) where Jesus is in the garden, crying out in agony for God to rescue him, to spare him from the intense pain he’s facing — yet Jesus surrenders his own will and chooses to face the pain, conflict, tension. I feel really connected with God through that passage.

I may start using Psalm 25, however, because I really felt connected to God, others and myself as I read it. Thanks for that gift, Jeanne.
