My childhood was filled with many pains from sexual abuse, physical abuse, and emotional abuse that were a direct result of my parents not walking in the ways of God.
As a child I questioned why my life was the way it was. As an adult, after I heard Deut. 30:19 read in a church service, I knew I had the answer to my question of why my life was the way it was. Now as a mother I have decided to follow the instruction God gives in the scripture, which is to choose life so that me and my children can be delivered.
Today I stand rejoicing and excited to say that my children’s lives are so great because I understood the scripture that says everything that I do as a parent will bring about things in the lives of my children. They have peace, joy, happiness and many more blessings of the Lord because I have chosen to not live the hedonistic lifestyle I saw as a child. I live for the Lord, and now their lives are blessed.
My heart’s desire is that every child would have parents who would allow this passage of scripture to come alive in their hearts so that the children of this world can enjoy their childhoods without all the mess, which is usually a result of not having spiritual covering from their parents.

Tressena, I think you’re so courageous — and the gift of love you’ve given your children is so beautiful and inspiring.
As I become more and more aware of what I missed out on as a kid (and what I was given), my heart for kids grows. I, too, strongly desire for kids to be able to enjoy their childhoods in an environment of love, safety, support and freedom.
