I Was Set Free

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

[Matthew 6:33 NIV]

Caroline M. writes:

This is my life verse. I had been in a very abusive marriage and was newly saved. I left the marriage against my pastor’s advice. The next few years were a downhill slide. I became addicted to drugs, married again, but I was very discontented.

I began going to church again and when I did, I quit using drugs. But I kept slipping back. It began to be almost predictable. Go to church, quit using drugs, start again, become too guilty to show my face.

One day, after a rather long period of being clean, my husband came home with drugs. That needle no sooner left my arm than I heard a voice,”This time you went too far, this time He’ll never forgive you.” I loved the Lord and wanted to be with Him. I loved His Word and the church. I had heard “once a drug addict, always a drug addict” many times and now I believed it. So, I thought, if I have to be a drug addict, then I’ll just have to serve God as a drug addict, but I’m going to serve Him anyway.

The next Sunday, in church, I went forward for prayer for finances (seriously). The pastor’s wife prayed for two people first, then came to me. Placing a hand on each side of my head and face, she said, “I come against the demon of drug addiction in this woman.” I was humiliated and was going to turn and run, but I fell backwards.

I was delivered and set completely free. I never went back. God made me so completely brand new that the few times I’ve had surgeries since, the pain medication acted on me the way it does on a person who never used drugs. And I get tired of taking the pain medication before the pain or pills are gone.

When I decided to seek the kingdom of God first, deliverance and freedom and all of His riches became mine. With His help, I’ll grow in faithfulness and trust until He brings me home.
