Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.

CHRIS RICE: The verse that comes to mind, and I’m really not sure to call it a life verse, maybe it is, but the one passage that comes to my mind kind of summarizes a lot of what I’ve been about and what I am about. It’s in Psalm 71, verses 17 and 18, and it just simply says, “Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.”
And that’s really been kind of a good summary of the truth that I’ve been given and reminded of over and over again in my lifetime, and to see that work out into my life in a way that makes me want to turn around and pass that on to the generation following up behind me has been very, very important to me. I think that’s really kind of a current underneath all that I do, whether it is the music things or working with students or, you know, being on a stage. Whatever it is, I just feel that that’s the undercurrent of it. I’m kind of trying to give back to the generation behind me what I’ve been giving so well during my years prior.
