“Trusting God With Grandpa’s Health”

We live by faith, not by sight.

A couple of years ago, my grandma (on my father’s side) was told that she had brain cancer. It ended up taking her. (This isn’t the main story.) My great grandma also died a couple years ago from health problems. Anyway, these experiences made me unable to trust hospitals and their work.

Anyway, a few years ago, my grandpa (on my mom’s side) had to have some open-heart surgery. Even the thought of knowing he was going to be in a hospital made me nervous enough … knowing he was going to go through open-heart surgery just plain scared me.

The surgery didn’t go well. My grandpa was placed in ICU. As young as I was, I wasn’t able to go and see him, except for once because I knew the nurse personally, but I still didn’t want to go. Envisioning him in pain at night was scary enough for me … I didn’t need to actually see it.

I ended up missing school, sports practices, and other things because I never wanted to be anywhere but the hospital. One night when I was at my house, I remembered this verse I learned at camp. Walk by faith, not by sight. I realized that that was exactly what I was supposed to do.

That night I decided to write the verse in an old-style writing and tea-stain the paper and burn the edges to make it look cool. I did, and my mom thought it would be a really good idea to hang it up in his ICU room. They did. Every time I thought about him, I remembered that verse. In my head I could see him in pain. I saw so many things running through my head. I just had to have the faith in God that he would bring us through it.

After a lot of prayer and healing, my grandpa is great now. He’s just about the same crazy guy I knew.

Faith in God can bring you through anything … take it from my experience. God is so cool.
