Christ’s compassion in two small words

Jesus wept.

[John 11:35]

Earl writes:

This verse just inspires me.

Here you have the son of God, most high, coming to resurrect a man who was his friend, and he weeps. He weeps with compassion for the sorrow of those that loved Lazarus, for he knows Lazarus is going to have life again through the gift of Christ’s resurrection.

This verse and others like it, that speak of Christ’s compassion, show the truth of God’s love and ever-abiding mercy.

I agree, Earl; this is an incredibly profound verse. I think it stands out all the more in John’s Gospel where the figure of Jesus is depicted as so divine (contra. the Gospel of Mark where the humanity of Jesus is so pronounced). I wonder what the author of the Fourth Gospel really wanted his readers to take away from such a comment.
