“A vision for people”
DJ writes:
Luke 10:2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (NIV)
After graduating from Virginia Tech as an electrical engineer, I found my first job in rural Maryland. God patiently renewed my faith and built it up through one-on-one discipleship with a mentor twice my age. Even though I could do well as an engineer, God began to change my heart and expanded my vision for people. There was nothing more exciting than to see life change as people would respond to God’s Word. In the summer of 1990, a Bible verse repeatedly came to my attention in my personal Bible reading as well as Bible teachings at church and conferences: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Luke 10:2). I moved out in faith and to respond to the Lord’s call for workers. I went to seminary and pastored for a handful of years. Even though I am no longer pastoring as my profession, God has led me on a more adventurous life than I’d ever imagined. God’s been faithful to show me each step of the way of how He wants to use me to fulfill His purposes and His calling upon my life.
