A Gift for the 56th Brigade

Dr. Paul Irwin (President of the American Bible Society) recently wrote the following in an article from the latest Record Magazine:

“My deep desire and hope is that I shall never fail in my duty, but that at all times, and especially right now, I shall be full of courage, so that with my whole being I shall bring honor to Christ.” Philippians 1:20a (GNT)

Over the course of emailing with Chaplain J. Craig Combs, serving in Iraq, one of our colleagues at Bibles.com enjoyed a special “in” on his experience. Annie LoCastro worked long-distance with Chaplain Combs to create 3,000 custom-edition Bibles commemorating his team’s mission, which was called “Operation Iraqi Freedom III: Strike Hard.” Annie was gripped by the passion Chaplain Combs had for his men and their objective, and it showed in the final product.

…Chaplain Combs and Annie LoCastro [met] for the first time at a welcome-home ceremony for the 56th Brigade Combat team at Baylor University’s Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas. There, amid a crowd of thousands that included the governor of Texas, Chaplain Combs presented the Bibles to the men.

The customized Bible has a special cover, greetings from their chaplains, Bible reading guides, special prayers for those in the military and the Code of Conduct for Members of the Armed Forces.
