Take a Stand for God

My dear friends, stand firm and don’t be shaken. Always keep busy working for the Lord. You know that everything you do for him is worthwhile.

[1 Corinthians 15:58 CEV]

Christie writes:

Whenever I read this verse, I am reminded of the calling that God has on each of our lives as Christians, and how we are not to give up and let the devil take over under any circumstances. The Bible, unfortunately, was not always a part of my life, as I didn’t always read it every day or take it with me everywhere I went. This was due to fears that I went through, the thoughts that Satan had put into my mind during most of my high school career.

So how did I gain the boldness that I have today?

I decided that I was going to stop running from God and the Bible and grab a hold of His awesome power, and to do that, I needed to buckle down and actually read the Bible. I closed my eyes and held my Bible in my hand, and when I had opened my eyes, it was opened to 1 Corinthians 15:58, which I will quote again: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” After reading this verse, I didn’t move from where I had been sitting at the time. I couldn’t move: that being because I was really feeling God’s power flow through my body. At first, I wasn’t sure what was going on, but as I read the verse over and over again, the meaning of what God was trying to show me finally came together. Because I had allowed fear to take over in my life and basically ‘kick out’ the indwelling Holy Spirit, I wasn’t doing what God wanted me to do, and I backslid. We as Christians are supposed to be constantly growing in the Lord, and allowing Him to work in our lives. If we do, then He will reward our obedience and faith by blessing us. Tests and trials are what help increase our faith. Fear is the opposite of faith and will knock down anybody that allows it to run their life.

This scripture has helped me to make my decisions regarding what’s right, and what isn’t. Whenever I need a boost, or I’m bored at school, I can just look at my name card, which has 1 Corinthians 15:58 on it, and I’ll know exactly what to do for the Lord.
