Love God to Love Others

“But I do know that none of you love God”

[John 5:42]

David’s writes:

For 2 1/2 years, I believed I was born again. It was only through the worst ordeal of my life that God made me realize that I was lost and in need of the Savior. My wife and I were on the verge of divorce, and I didn’t even know it. For three days, I had read this powerful verse. Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees, the religious of His day, and told them, “But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.” After the third day of reading this text, at around 3 AM, I realized that Jesus was saying these words to me. I did not have God’s love in me and therefore couldn’t love Him or anyone else. For those 2 1/2 years I could not figure out why it was so hard for me to love others.

Now I knew why.

I gave my life to Jesus that morning, broken but forgiven. I wish I could say that all turned out well with my marriage. I didn’t. My wife and I divorced, I sank deep into depression, and almost committed suicide. Somehow through all of the mess I made out of my life, God found a way to reach me. He gave me a purpose for my life, calling me into the ministry while in a mental hospital. I am now fully recovered and happily married once again. My new wife is a strong Christian who is growing every day. I have never lost my love for God’s word. It grows daily as I seek His will and ways. I have been given the wonderful opportunity to lead my sister and several others to faith in Christ. All of this was possible because of the life-changing power of God’s word. Praise His glorious Name!
