Knowing the True God

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.

[2 Corinthians 5:17]

Jennifer writes:

Once there was a child who longed to know her God. The God she knew was always there through her difficult times, but she went on with her life confused of who God really was.

Her heart was full of fear, fear that continued to haunt her soul. Could her soul ever know peace & forgiveness?

“For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing” (Romans 7:19 NIV]

The tragedy of being awakened without connection to her biological parents taunted every ounce of the blood streaming through her veins. She couldn’t understand why neither were around to take care of her, leaving a child’s heart wondering with resentfulness.

She grew up feeling empty and betrayed. How was it possible for a little girl to feel so much emotion that did not make any sense to her? She carried all burdens into her adult-hood. Trust was the issue that destroyed her relationship to herself and to others.

For years she continued living a life with the fear of not truly knowing herself and the true God. But in her heart the God she knew was always watching over her. She couldn’t quite understand why he wouldn’t erase the pain she was carrying buried deep in her heart: Why she was experiencing a life that didn’t make any sense to her. She was weak, tired and angry. Was it possible for a child to carry such a burden?

Sometimes the pain was so intense that she wanted to crawl under anything to hide. In time she learned to wash it away as if the pain didn’t exist anymore. She continued to ask herself, “What have I done that made them not want me?” and, “Am I such a burden for a human flesh to be love besides God?”

When faith took hold of her, that silent voice lingered and comforted her. Now she knows Jesus, the true loving and understanding God. God has become her constant companion. Her waiting for a Savior is over. She believes Jesus died for her sin and redeemed her spirit, body and soul. God is the beginning and the end. God is her strength, and life. “She chose your grace, Lord.”

I am that girl.

Thanks be to God. You are my Lord, the lover of my soul. I choose life. I choose to believe God’s Word. I choose to believe in his presence and his promises.

I am set free from sin and death. In Christ I am his child. Raised up with him. I am forgiven and am his new creation and the very temple of the Holy Spirit. And with Christ I will be reunited in love.

Thank you God, I love you with all my might.
